Annie Sanchez is powerhouse generalist with expertise in nonprofits and small business with an emphasis on growth, change management, culture and belonging.

In 2018, Sanchez founded Mariposa Strategies, an organizational and leadership development company centering justice-oriented leaders, people of color, and non-conforming teams in their vital roles in society through strategic thought partnership, coaching, and community-building. Here she’s advised hundreds of artists, movement builders, nonprofit, and philanthropy leaders across the US to help them realize ambitious ideas.

Sanchez built a successful company from the ground up with transformative services at the intersection of Spirit and spreadsheets. Serving organizations, individuals, and beloved community, she steers business development, operations, marketing and communications, and ecosystem building.

Before that, she was Director of New Mexico’s largest nonprofit capacity-building organization, the Center for Nonprofit Excellence (now Groundworks New Mexico), where she led business planning, strategic marketing campaigns, and cultivated partnerships to support the organization’s next chapter. She worked closely with leaders in the nonprofit, philanthropy and government sectors to galvanize collective change in New Mexico.

Sanchez’s foundation in operations, relationships, service and team dynamics was built in the hospitality industry where she learned from renowned restauranteurs Danny Meyer and Drew Nieporent. She managed vibrant restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and consulted front of house operations.

Sanchez studied fundraising at NYU, co-founded New Mexico’s statewide fundraising initiative, Giving Tuesday NM, and co-chaired fundraising events for Planned Parenthood of New York City’s Activist Council.

Sanchez has coached hundreds of leaders at the ACLU, Native Americans in Philanthropy, Alliance for Justice, and Ford Foundation among many others. She’s served on the advisory board of Building Movement Project, as an advisor to artists and entrepreneurs with the City of Albuquerque’s Arts & Culture and Economic Development departments.

Presently, Annie serves as an executive strategist and advisor on organizational health, operations, and internal culture to movement-based arts and climate teams.

Raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, she is a life-long learner who studied art at University of New Mexico and fundraising at New York University.

Annie currently lives in New Mexico and will be relocating to NYC in 2027.
